MBC Drama Festival is like a series of short stories, each story running about an estimated time of 1 hour. Episode 9 was titled, The Murder and it stars Moon So-ri, Seo Kang Joon, Lee Se Yeong and Shin Dong Mi. Seo Kang Joon plays Yoon Ha, who marries Mi Soo (Lee Se Yeong), the daughter of Jeong Boon (Moon So Ri). In Boon (Shin Dong Mi) is Jeong Boon’s sister, who lost her mind after the war.
Can you imagine…that a guy you loved and married…is actually in love with your mother?
That’s exactly what this story is about. Yoon Ha and Jeong Boon met years ago when they were both having a difficult time in their lives. Yoon Ha was a kid at that point of time, but he grew up feeling fond of Jeong Boon. When they met again coincidentally, feelings started to develop. However, things got a little twisted and Yoon Ha ended up marrying Mi Soo, so that he can stay close to Jeong Boon.
THOUGHTS & DISCUSSION
The story is one hour long, and it felt just nice. It wasn’t too short, or too long. I felt amazed that in just one hour, a story can be well developed as well. Honestly, I picked out this episode because of 5urprise’s Seo Kang Joon. He’s such a cutie and I cannot miss his shows. Hah.
The drama started off strong.
It opens with Yoon Ha and Mi Soo getting married. We hear the emcee telling Jeong Boon to give Yoon Ha a hug, as his parents are no longer around.Yoon Ha hugged Jeong Boon, and whispers to her ear, “Now, let’s not break up.”
Yoon Ha and Jeong Boon crossed paths years ago when everyone is having a difficult life. Yoon Ha stole Jeong Boon’s rice cakes and ran off, but was caught. He gave excuses like he was hungry and had no family, but Jeong Boon hits him, saying that he isn’t the only one in that situation. Yoon Ha argues that Jeong Boon is an adult.
They begin to sell things together, and all of a sudden, Jeong Boon stopped appearing.
They met again, through Mi Soo who is Yoon Ha’s classmate. Yoon Ha is clearly happy to see Jeong Boon again, and he occasionally find reasons to visit their house.
Jeong Boon was injured by In Boon, and Yoon Ha attended to her injuries. Jeong Boon started to cry and stand up to walk away, but Yoon Ha hugs her tight, telling her that it’s okay. Even adults have difficult times.
Yoon Ha gives Jeong Boon’s family a gun, as they do not have any guys around and it could be useful. He tries to teach Jeong Boon on how to use it, but Jeong Boon gets too nervous and refuses to learn.
Mi Soo tells her mother that she likes Yoon Ha and is going to confess to him through a letter. Jeong Boon feels awkward. Yoon Ha hands Jeong Boon a book, inside he underlined a sentence which is a confession that he is no longer a kid and that he likes her. Jeong Boon is flustered when Mi Soo comes inside the room, and reads the book, mistaking that it is Yoon Ha’s reply to her confession.
Jeong Boon decides to move house, and Yoon Ha is upset to find them gone. Time passed by, and Mi Soo is introducing the man she’s going to marry to Mom. Jeong Boon is surprised to see Yoon Ha, and Yoon Ha is surprised too that Mi Soo brought Jeong Boon along. Yoon Ha says that he loves Mi Soo, and before Jeong Boon could reason with him, Mi Soo overhears the confession and gets excited.
While all of them are out together, Yoon Ha secretly brings Jeong Boon to a place he had set up and Jeong Boon is happy. She lies down to rest, and Yoon Ha quietly lies down beside her and holds her hand.
Mi Soo finds out that Yoon Ha had loved Jeong Boon all along, and tries to convince herself that it’s a misunderstanding. She confronts Jeong Boon, telling her to just give a reason why the powder is in her room and that it was In Boon’s doing, not Jeong Boon.
Okay. That’s it. Hahahaha. I’m not going to say what happen next. If you search around, you’ll probably find the answer somewhere, but I don’t want to spoil it. The truth being revealed, and the confrontation didn’t take a whole lot of the hour, instead it just took a considerable amount of minutes towards the last part.
The main point of this drama is to show the love being developed by Yoon Ha and Jeong Boon, who was 20 years apart. In my opinion, it was sweet, but a love which is difficult for others to understand because of the age gap. I know, age doesn’t matter in love to some people, and even though I won’t judge people if they choose to date someone younger or older, I myself won’t be able to bring myself to date, let alone marry a guy with a huge age gap from me. Unless it’s a cute younger guy, you know like idols? HAHAHA. That’s just the fangirl in me talking. Sidetrack.
Anyway, it was a good one hour, even though the ending was not to my liking, but we shouldn’t expect too much from a one-hour show and should just be grateful.
Last point – SEO KANG JOON is so good looking. 🙂
