I’m not going to lie – This drama is one of the best family dramas I’ve ever watched. It’s not even a weekend drama which has 50 over episodes. It’s a miniseries, about two married couples and two singles who are forming a relationship. The best thing about it? It does not have overly dramatic plot-lines, and that is the winning point of this drama to me. The plot is something very realistic, something which is happening in people’s lives all over the world, and it’s just so awesome.
I like how the drama continues to make us question ourselves, and our beliefs about relationships and love. Is love really everlasting, and what is love all about? What does a marriage mean and what makes a good marriage? How to have a long-lasting marriage? There are so many questions, which has no right or wrong answer – and it all depends on each individual.
This episode brought tears to my eyes, because I could clearly feel the hurt and pain the different characters felt. It’s not just about focusing on one character – this drama is written in a way that I can love all the characters and feel their dilemmas. On a side note, the casts are all doing an awesome job at portraying their individual roles. This episode itself is totally Eun Jin & Sung Soo’s episode.
The cops came by the apartment, as the neighbours complained and went in to take a look. One of the officers brought Sung Soo to the room, to speak with him, while the other officer spoke with Eun Jin. The officer asked Eun Jin if Sung Soo had hit her, or if she needed any help – to which she says she doesn’t need and she wants to stay with her husband. The cops left soon after, and Sung Soo looks at Eun Jin, hurt and went inside the room quietly before bursting into tears.
Eun Jin calls up mom to let Yoon Jung stay at mom’s again, and mom senses something amiss and decides to visit Eun Jin. In the lift, neighbours were gossiping about Eun Jin having an affair which caused the previous night commotion. Mom and Dad looked at each other, thinking that it’s just baseless rumours.
However, mom notices the trash inside the apartment, and questions Eun Jin, if she really had an affair. Eun Jin keeps quiet, and mom is shocked.
Eun Jin says that she didn’t, which made mom relieved and that they can still convince Sung Soo and that there is nothing wrong with meeting a couple of times and eating together. Eun Jin, however confesses that she loved Jae Hak, and that she wanted to sleep with him, but she couldn’t bring herself to. Mom screams and starts hitting Eun Jin scolding her for her actions and her words, saying that it can’t be called love when she is doing such an act.
Mi Kyung meets Anna and finds out that Sung Soo has found out about Eun Jin’s affair. Anna mentions that she is more curious about who Eun Jin met with because if it was Eun Jin, it wouldn’t have been just a casual relationship. She also mentions that there are witnesses who came up to say that they’ve seen the man a couple of times, and that he is married.
Min Soo sends Eun Young home, and steps in for a while. Eun Young comments that she is sorry that her house is better than his, and he says that she would be in trouble if she had met a different man. She doesn’t get the message, and he explains that if she had dated a different guy, he might be offended by what she just said. She realises it and admits it. He says that he likes her because she’s transparent🙂
They went in the bathroom to wash their hands, and Min Soo notices the mould on the sink. Eun Young says that it won’t come off, and Min Soo puts something on it, and says it will be gone the next day.
They’re putting back the ingredients in the refrigerator, and comes into sudden close contact. Eun Young is all smiles and closes her eyes hoping for a kiss, and Min Soo pushes her head away. Hah. Eun Young complains that he is stingy, and that she was hoping for a refrigerator kiss. He wears his coat and gets ready to leave. Eun Young asked why is he leaving so early, and he mentions that he is a hot-blooded young man. Eun Young grabs his arm and tells him it’s okay to stay and to be a hot-blooded young man, and there is no need to hold it in. HAHAHA! He smiles, and holds her hand saying that he has sort of a bad luck all his life, and he doesn’t want to bring bad luck to her so he’s being cautious. She doesn’t really get what he means. He smiles and leaves, which sorts of send her into a weird mood and her commenting that they’re dating but he still drives her crazy. Hah.
Eun Young calls up Eun Jin, saying that she finally found a guy she loves and is currently dating him. She explains all the ‘bad points’ of Min Soo, but says that despite all that, she likes him a lot and it’s different from all the past guys she met. Eun Jin is happy for Eun Young.
Jae Hak visits Min Soo and they chat over a drink. Jae Hak lets the previous accident go, and tells Min Soo not to blame himself as it was a mistake, and tells Min Soo that if anything happens, he will back him up. Min Soo tells Jae Hak that both him and Mi Kyung didn’t grew up like others. They grow up being afraid of being abandoned by their parents, and Min Soo says that Mi Kyung is probably worse off than him as she didn’t really had a life of her own.
Eun Jin hears noises at the kitchen and she carefully steps out after hearing that Sung Soo has went back to the room.Sung Soo stops her from going inside the room, and says that he wants to kill her by going insane but he wants to hold her like crazy and ask her what is this feeling.
Mi Kyung is irritated that Jae Hak is sound asleep and wakes him up. She expresses her frustrations and messes up his hair before leaving the room. She goes off to the storage room and cries alone. Jae Hak follows after her and holds her as she questioned him what was it about Eun Jin that he liked. She mentions that Jae Hak must have not loved her at all since Eun Jin is vastly different from her, and that besides giving birth, she is the same as a housekeeper to him. He disagrees and says that he loved her and that they are just different. She tells him that she hopes Eun Jin’s husband comes after him and mess up his life just like how Eun Jin did to her life.
THOUGHTS & DISCUSSION
Let’s talk about Sung Soo and Eun Jin first. I loved how Sung Soo was in this entire episode because he was struggling with his own feelings. His feelings of hurt, betrayal and love. He clearly still loves Eun Jin, and throughout the episode he tries to find an excuse, or some loopholes so that he can at least find a reason to maybe forgive her.
First of all he asked if she slept with Jae Hak, and she keeps quiet – which Sung Soo took it as a yes. Then he asked if she knew he was a married man and that Jae Hak didn’t tricked her into the relationship, to which she said she knew it beforehand. Here, he was probably looking for some sort of excuse or a loophole to make it easier for him to maybe forgive her.
He tells her that he will not grant a divorce and that they will live in this hell together, and at another part of the episode, he tells her that he wants to hold her like crazy, despite wanting to kill her at the same time.
Okay, actually, I have much more to discuss but someone disturbed my train of thought, and now I can’t focus on what I want to write. I’m sorry, but I will discuss more on the next episode post. For the next episode, I will not be doing a full recap, instead I will be doing a discussion recap, similar like my episode 8 post.
