Alright, I’m back with a discussion for Emergency Couple, because there’s too much cute I can’t resist writing about it.
Initially, I wanted to recap this drama or do episode discussions, but decided not to, because of time constraint, as well as content. Since it’s a medical-rom-com, the content to write might be boring (medical scenes). It’s fun and exciting to watch the medical scenes – but it will be boring if put into words, so I decided not to do recaps.
However, I continue to be entertained watching this drama, and I have so much fun, I think I’ll do episode discussions from this episode onwards. I’m not sure about what others think – but I really love this drama, and I’m just so happy that Song Ji Hyo picked the right project this time round 🙂
THOUGHTS & DISCUSSION
So, Chang Min is slowly starting the get back his affection for Jin Hee – and it’s really cute. We never got to see how they fell in love, and what was it about each other that made them marry without their parent’s consent and blessing. We only saw how ugly their marriage had turned out.
However, Chang Min continues to be touched by Jin Hee’s actions like taking care of his mother, and saving his mother from possible death. It’s obvious that he starts looking at Jin Hee in a different light because here, as an intern, she is capable of doing things he couldn’t do, or thought of doing (the elevator incident, the hearing-problem patient). It’s a side of Jin Hee that he might have forgotten after getting married – or a side that he never knew existed.
He was always calling her ignorant during their marriage – so seeing her capable of doing things, probably sort of made his admiration of her grew.
I can totally see that Jin Hee is fond of Chief Gook – despite his harsh scoldings towards her, he is also the one who convince her that doctors are not always people who start out with a noble mission. Despite saying no, he still goes out and helps her. He seems cold and rough on the outside, but we can totally see he’s such a softie.
I love both guys, and I don’t want to bother about the ending yet because let’s give it a break – the show is only 7 episodes along, and there’s more to go. I read some mixed reviews about the show – some saying that they don’t understand the genre or the theme and is confused as to what the drama is supposed to be.
I say – who cares? I think dramas have long passed the time of being categorized into one or two fixed genre, and dramas are constantly evolving into different kind of genres and themes.
I really like this – and I don’t even know how medical and rom-com come together, but this works wonder! I’ve seen White Tower, General Hospital, Surgeon Bong Dal Hee, New Heart, The 3rd Hospital Brain, Good Doctor, Medical Top Team…etc, but none of those had a mixture of medical-rom-com. It’s either medical-melo, or medical-rom.
Don’t misunderstand, I’m not saying those medical dramas are not good – some of them are fantastic, but honestly, it’s hard to find a medical drama which balances out the ratio of medical and romance in the drama. Good Doctor was too much of a human drama – that it lacked the nervousness and seriousness of medical dramas (that’s what I feel personally). It was a good and easy watch on the eyes, heart-warming too, but it lacked good conflict.
Medical Top Team was…they had interesting characters, interesting cases – but I think they focused way too much on the politics that I got tired of it and dropped the drama.
Anyway, back to main topic – I really love Emergency Couple because the overall tone is like a romance comedy, but they still have enough medical scenes to make everything work. It just works for me 🙂
And let me say this again, I am just glad that Ji Hyo picked the correct project which suits her. I felt that all her recent project in years didn’t suit her that well, but this was a great choice she made. Ahhh~ I love everyone in this 🙂
Lastly, the previews look so good – Chang Min being jealous! Ah~ I can’t wait!!!
