K-DRAMA SPECIAL: MiMi Episode 1 (Review)

Alright. Mimi was one of the drama specials which I wanted to watch, and here I am with a review for the first episode.

Mimi only has four episodes, so I actually planned to do recaps for it, but after actually watching the first episode, I’m staying away from this drama. The first episode was a bit too slow for my liking, and it wasn’t exactly boring – but the pace was just too slow for me.

Basically, in the first episode, we shift between the present and the past, as Min Woo tries to regain his lost memories.

Okay – so basically, Mimi right now doesn’t exist. She’s probably dead, that’s why Min Woo can’t see her – or maybe she’s not dead, but not alive either. I don’t know what’s that supposed to mean to. Hah.

Min Woo is trying to find back his lost memories and what happened to him – but I’m not really that interested, even though it’s just 4 episodes. It seems like the drama is trying to be something like a romance, with a bit of fantasy…and who knows if time travel is involved…

There was a few things which bothered me though. Mimi’s dreams of what will happen in future, and Min Woo behaves like he’s possessed when he draws. It’s okay actually – but I just find it bothersome that it’s similar to the movie Killer Tone. No, I’m not saying it’s a copy – it’s not. It’s entirely different.

It’s just that the possessed-drawing strikes a familiar scene with me and I can’t take the scene seriously. Hah. And the most weirdest thing? The OST track.

The normal OST is okay – but they inserted SM the Ballad’s, ‘Breath’ (Kor Ver) in and I just thought it didn’t suit the scene that well. And mind you, they played the song twice, with a time difference of only 5-10 minutes. I know it’s a ballad – but it wasn’t that suitable for the scene.

No, I don’t hate the song – I like it, and I like the Chinese version best and I listened to the whole album – but yes, I’m still saying it wasn’t suitable for the scenes.

Anyway, the main point is – I found the first episode a bit too slow for me, and it’s either you like it or not. Probably no in-betweens.

  1. I felt similarly as you did. The pacing of the show was all over the place. I found it to be the most visually depressing drama I’ve seen, I’m not sure if I’ll be watching it again…
