Finally, there are only 10 episodes (1 mth, 1 week) left before Empress Ki wraps up – and I AM HONESTLY SO HAPPY.
I don’t even know how to explain my mental state while watching this drama, and I’m just glad that I can see the light at the end of this dark tunnel. AHAHA.
No, don’t misunderstand me – I like this drama, and there was once upon a time when I loved it too, but there are just too many factors about the drama which makes me shake my head and want to give up from time to time.
I’m probably going to do a final review once the show ends – this is just a review on the drama so far, up till Episode 40 (I haven’t watch 41 yet).
No screencaps, just a written review and discussion
THOUGHTS & DISCUSSION
So finally the ultimate villains died – except for the few who are in hiding, and we’ve got ourselves new enemies to hate. So as of now, Seung Nyang will be going against the new Empress, the Empress Dowager, and Bayan.
It’s totally okay with me – because I saw this coming, but honestly, I find that the time spent on earlier episodes was too much. There was too many episodes focusing on Seung Nyang/Ta Hwan/Palace fight against El Temor and right after his death, we moved on too fast to a new villain.
It doesn’t give enough time for viewers to breath, and it feels like we’re never getting out of all this political mess right until the last episode. I would have better appreciated it if they had at least gave us one episode for more Seung Nyang-Ta Hwan alone time, basking in their romance and victory.
Besides that – I find Seung Nyang’s change too sudden and drastic – I believed that she had feelings for Ta Hwan, and was sincere in loving him, despite seeking revenge. However, she changed too much since El Temor’s death, focusing more on getting her hands on the treasure, and figuring out how to get more power and the Empress seat.
I know that she’s doing so to save Goryeo, and she did feel unhappy when Ta Hwan went to the Empress chambers on the wedding night – but I find it hard to accept this sudden change and a greed for power.
I don’t know if you guys are aware of the real historical facts – but I’ll just state a few down here. In reality, Empress Ki became the secondary Empress and after the main Empress died, she took over the main Empress spot. She tried to make her son the crown prince. Tal Tal will go against Bayan, and Bayan will either be banished or killed (I’m not sure.) Ta Hwan will find out about Empress Ki’s plan to make her son the crown prince and will distance himself from her.
Now – that’s a lot of things to cover in the next 10 episodes, but here’s the thing, I don’t know if they are going to show the downfall of Empress Ki or will just stop when Empress Ki succeeds at being the main Empress, and that kind of frustrates me.
Secondly – the drama is fictional, and not based on the real facts, so one of the notable difference is that in the drama, Empress Ki has 2 kids – one with Wang Yu, the other with Ta Hwan. So…I don’t know which kid will be crown prince, and that doesn’t really matter…since both are her kids…right?
So basically…I don’t know what the last 10 episodes will focus on and how much time they’re going to waste on all these political fights, and when are the villains ever going to die – I just want everything to end quickly so I can just breath and shove the drama aside.
It’s really such a waste though – I really loved a lot of things about the drama, it’s just that the drama is mentally draining with all the politics going on for ages. Let me just rewind back to Seung Nyang-Ta Hwan happy moments.
