POV DISCUSSION: God’s Gift 14 Days Final Thoughts

God’s Gift 14 Days has ended…and as much as I want to shout ‘HURRAY’, I’m sure everyone agree that the ending was ridiculous, and a huge slap on our faces.

This was a drama that I would have recommended to anyone, but now I won’t even ask anyone to watch it anymore because they’ll probably be as frustrated as I am over the ending.

There are many loopholes if you slowly think about it – and I suspect that maybe the writer sort of amended the storyline a little bit, but got too rushed for time, and a proper ending and just did whatever to it.

First and foremost – the question that everyone is curious about – Did Ki Dong Chan die?

vlcsnap-2014-04-24-08h53m06s9Yes. No. That’s totally up to you.

It was an open-ended ending, and you can argue that he’s alive – but we can also argue that he died.

So roughly what happened in the last 3 or 5 minutes…vlcsnap-2014-04-24-08h52m41s23vlcsnap-2014-04-24-08h52m18s43Ki Dong Chan went to Mujin after the club fight, and he thought that his mother killed Saet Byul. To cover the crime, he walks into the water, only to realize that those nightmares he had, wasn’t a dream but a part of his memory. He must have been the killer before the 14 days.

However, Saet Byul clearly was alive, and he knew (!) but he suddenly recalls the ‘one must die in order for the other to live’, and he laughs sadly before the scene black out and all we heard was a splash.

vlcsnap-2014-04-24-08h55m31s179We’re followed with the scene where the president admits to his family crime, and Dong Ho is released, with a blurred out guy – who literally can be anyone you want it to be.

vlcsnap-2014-04-24-08h54m45s230vlcsnap-2014-04-24-08h53m28s229vlcsnap-2014-04-24-08h53m25s199vlcsnap-2014-04-24-08h53m24s192And Soo Hyun stares into the Mujin river, and smiles when Saet Byul and her mom comes to join her. They stay for a while, and leave.

So do you think he’s alive?

For me – I believe that he’s dead, or rather the writer wants him dead – but couldn’t make that too obvious because that would have made the writer a common enemy of all GG14D viewers, so the writer decided to just leave it to us.

Let’s go through some of the blurry points.

The Splash

We heard a splash. It could mean anything, really, and it’s stupid even to think that Dong Chan jump into the water – because let’s remind ourselves he was holding Saet Byul. He can’t jump inside the water, without putting Saet Byul back to safety. And if he had went back to give Saet Byul, Soo Hyun would have stopped him from killing himself. If Saet Byul woke up herself and ran to her mother, she would have stopped him from killing himself as well.

The person at Dong Ho’s release

Who is that? It could have been Dong Chan, or Woojin, or Ho Gook. I don’t think it’s Ho Gook – but since I’m standing on the side which thinks he died, so I think it’s Woojin. vlcsnap-2014-04-24-08h49m43s34vlcsnap-2014-04-24-08h49m46s56He probably got up from his coma, and just like what Dong Chan told him, he takes care of Young Gyu and Dong Chan’s family as a form of forgiveness.

But you can think it’s Dong Chan too, because after all, Dong Ho looks happy to see all of them  – and doesn’t seem surprised, which means that the person isn’t a stranger.

The Nightmare

Okay – so that dream wasn’t a dream says Dong Chan.

Really?vlcsnap-2014-04-24-08h43m08s175Explain this. What did you dream?

This was before Saet Byul’s death, before the 14 days – Dong Chan had a few drinks and slept at a woman’s place, and was having sort of a dream (though we don’t know about what). We only see him say ‘No, No.”

So if that dream wasn’t a dream but his memory – so what was he dreaming here? Probably getting beaten up by the lady’s husband *sarcastic* Ahahaha.

vlcsnap-2014-04-24-08h46m05s149I think everyone agree that Saet Byul’s ‘death’ wasn’t clear at all from the beginning till the end. First of all, we had no idea how she died in the first place. When we go back 14 days, a lot of things happened, and Soo Hyun met 2 killers – who had nothing to do with Saet Byul’s death.

The main problem is that after the 14 Days, a lot of things changed, the situation changed and both Dong Chan and Soo Hyun met a lot of people who they didn’t know 14 days before.

14 Days before… Saet Byul would have nothing to do with Cha Bong Sup. He died in an accident, while Soo Hyun and Saet Byul were together. Saet Byul also had nothing to do with Jang Moon Soo. However, these two killers know the ‘wrist’ guy.

And from what we can see after the 14 Days, Saet Byul’s kidnapping was done by the president’s wife, and their son. We also see clips of Saet Byul being ‘rejected’ by various people on her way home before she went missing.

Okay – honestly, there’s too many times she went ‘missing’, and I can’t really recall everything now in sequence. AHAHAHAHAHA.

Let’s just talk about this first –

vlcsnap-2014-04-24-09h01m46s89vlcsnap-2014-04-24-09h01m36s246vlcsnap-2014-04-24-09h01m47s106When Soo Hyun was in Jang Moon Soo’s place, she came across green scotch-tapes and ropes – and this scene pops into her mind.

Is that her imagination, or was that how Saet Byul die? In the picture before this, there were no ropes tied around her hands – but there is also a possibility of the police taking off the ropes and tape, after taking all the necessary pictures.

If that was how she died – it again clouds our image on who killed Saet Byul 14 days before. Dong Chan? Sure, but why didn’t he take off those ropes and tape? Even when he is not in the right state of mind, he wouldn’t have dump Saet Byul in that state.

So I guess…it’s just Soo Hyun’s imagination?

Oh…and I did not forget about her nails when she died okay? She was supposed to have her nails coloured with Dong Chan’s mom’s special polish – so where does that come in? Did she went inside the secret place and did her nails? Did Dong Chan’s mom really killed Saet Byul 14 days before, or was it still a plot by the president’s wife? How and why?

There are way too many questions about Saet Byul’s death 14 days before, and even now 14 days later. Nothing is crystal clear for us to see.

vlcsnap-2014-04-24-08h51m47s249vlcsnap-2014-04-24-08h51m41s188‘One must die in order for the other to live’…. so….Saet Byul died 14 days ago, and by rights Dong Chan should live, but Dong Chan was also ‘killed’ off by the orders of Han Ji Hoon. No?

So…Saet Byul died, and gave Dong Chan 14 days to live? And the fact that Ji Hoon was there means that it was still a plot to frame Dong Chan back then. So…again, nail polish? And wait a minute – so the thing is Ji Hoon was probably threatened to give the items, and so he may or may not have given it 14 days ago – whatever it is he received pictures of Dong Chan killing Saet Byul.

vlcsnap-2014-04-24-08h51m12s157This. Did she ‘teleport’ herself there? Was there not enough time to squeeze inside more scenes? I’m totally appalled that one moment we see Saet Byul inside a different warehouse (from 14 days ago), and the other moment we see her there unconscious.

I don’t even know why the same warehouse wasn’t being used. They changed a lot of things after the 14 days, but some of the main points remains the same – the death location, the people being killed, the broadcast show – so I don’t see why the warehouse changed without a reason given.

I really loved every moment of this drama – and there was a time where I suspected they would kill off either Saet Byul or Dong Chan, because the phrase ‘one has to die for the other to live’ has to create sort of an impact on the viewers. And the only way was that both the people are characters we don’t want to die.

However I thought, that possibility was dismissed the moment Saet Byul picture started to re-appear when Soo Hyun was discovering the Mujin case. I expected her to live, without the death of anyone important.

Now that the drama is officially over –  I have more questions than answers, and all I’m left with is frustration. I’m confused with what supposedly happened between the two timelines before Saet Byul’s kidnapping and ‘death’.

And I don’t know why Ki Dong Chan has to die. You’re there dude, holding her and she’s alive! All you have to do is go to Soo Hyun and that’s it – you guys are done. Okay – or maybe you may think he didn’t die.

And….what happened to Han Ji Hoon….?

They say, ‘love is blind.’ That’s probably the case for me. I was so in love with the drama, I didn’t even think about the flaws it had – it was just perfect to me.

Now that I’m shooting daggers at it because of the ending, I’m starting to question a lot of points in the drama.

There are a lot of characters…..which seemed like they’re important, but turned out to be…emmm…not that important?

No Min Woo & Grandfather. They seemed like they would have more impact on the story, but really…those characters are wasted in the drama. It seems like they only appear when drama feels like adding them in.

All that blind chase at the start, with the mystery was really fun – and I enjoyed it a lot, but the second half mystery and chase is no longer that creepy…it kind of takes away some fun. And….because the first part doesn’t really have any direct connection with Saet Byul’s death, it kind of felt useless in terms of plot development.

And – obviously, the ending is still the most frustrating part of all. If they were going to kill him off, they should have dropped clues much earlier. Remind viewers again about the prophecy. They should have revealed the actual killer much earlier and made the last few episodes a fight against ‘fate’.

It’s really stupid to make us all think that everything is probably going to be fine, only to give us such a stupid reminder about that prophecy and that twist in the last 3-5 minutes. Not funny.

And Ki Dong Chan believing that? KI DONG CHAN?! WOW.

AHAHAHA. Okay – so roughly those are my thoughts right now about the drama. I can’t exactly remember the timeline quite well right now, because Saet Byul went missing too many times and with so many different people, I kind of lost track of the sequence.

Whatever it is – I still think that Saet Byul’s death should have been revealed with much more clarity, because it’s still blurry in some aspects.

And as to why I think Dong Chan died…vlcsnap-2014-04-24-08h53m58s15Which mother on Earth would want to return to a place where her child died once, and live again?

I think Soo Hyun would never want to return to Mujin because it holds such painful and creepy memory. Unless Dong Chan died there. But…they’re smiling. It’s either they’ve moved on…or….yeah. I don’t know.

Someone pointed out that the last ending scene during the credits when Dong Chan was storytelling was not a flashback as Saet Byul was wearing something different, and the location is different. I need to re-watch this to make sure, but if that is true, it can mean that Dong Chan is indeed alive, or it is just a technical glitch. You know, when you want to add more scene, and didn’t check properly?

If Dong Chan is alive, then maybe, Soo Hyun might have returned to Mujin without feeling the creeps anymore, and she’s smiling because yeah  -they’re all alive.

Okay, Thanks everyone who is reading through this whole post, a long one with me ranting. Ahahahah. Cheers🙂

      • No, Woo Jin didn’t die, dudes in a coma. They didn’t show Dong Chan’s face, but they did t show him jumping in the lake or drowning. I think the single splash we heard was Soo Hyun jumping in the lake to smack him back to reality. I can hope…

        • Those are my least favorite endings, but it think they took a page out of George RR Maritn’s playbook and left us with enough clues to know DC is alive. Oh, you should have seen me ranting after Mirae’s Choice ended. That raised my blood pressureM

        • I agree with you, sifuhallyu, the lower legs water level may not cause Dong Chan to die and besides Soo Hyun is very near to rescue them. What is revealing in the story was for Dong Chan to know that he was the one who threw Saet Byul to the river. But, the fate was suddenly twisted in the end. Everything was a scenario due to political will and power, but the moral ascendancy of the President requires him to stand for the truth.

  1. IDK, maybe the writer was drunk as well and there’s no one else left to write the ending so they got some other writer who thought there’s still another episode left and voila we got the shitty cliffhanger finale! LOL

  2. i agree with all your point here.. i’ll forgive all the loop holes if the ending is better though (DC stay alive),but sighhh.. my ideal ending is DC jumps in the water but SH come and save him.. just like how he save her before..! i force my sister to watch this when there’s still 4 eps left, and she smack me after the finale coz she cries like hell.. well, i did too..

  3. I really hope that dong chan doesn’t die.~~ some talk to the directors to make an special episode about this plsssss T_T
